Learn customs around restaurants and food – no tipping, it’s okay to slurp your ramen, don’t stick chopsticks in the rice as it looks, don’t blow your nose in public.

Bow when meeting or leaving someone.

Don’t be loud, especially on the train.

Show extra respect to elders.

Never drop trash on the ground, if there are no trash cans which there probably aren’t, take trash with you.

If you’re traveling to multiple places, the Japan Rail Pass will save you money. You must buy Japan Rail pass from your home country.

First class trains are worth the extra money

Make information cards in both your native language and Japanese with your hotels address or destination to give to the taxi driver. Be sure to also list phone number and email.
